I did it!

I played harp in church on Sunday with 800 eyes staring at me!  I’ve never played with flute, oboe, organ, or choir and never played on a Sunday morning.  The music director said the piece went really slow, a plus in my heart, and my teacher assured me I could do it.  I asked her to pencil in the date in case I got cold feet.

At HarpArts I thought I was ready to play with Justin.  Then this elegant violin music soared over my head, my brain turned to mush, and I forgot everything.  During that week I learned how to prepare.   For this performance I listened to the CD, played the piece over and over, and practiced the tricky passages for hours.  All I had to do was focus, and breathe for 5.36 minutes!!!!

Rehearsal did not go well.  I was going too fast…yes… Judy was too fast!!!  Saturday night I sounded like a sailor, ranting and raving.  What was I thinking?  Why was I putting myself through this?

Sunday morning --- I did really well. I was soooooo proud. I did miss a few notes and got off once but found my way back. The second service came. I did not miss a single note, did not miss any rhythms, was firm on the strings and people said they could hear me perfectly. I was glowing!

Thanks to Lynne, Justin, Liz and HarpArts.  They played with us and helped us prepare.  Our next goal?  HarpArts at Carnegie Hall.
